My old friend the
Wall Street Journal Real Time Economics Blog highlighted a
paper that describes the growing disparity between spending on college athletes and spending on students. Spending on athletes grew 38% from 2005 to 2008, increasing to a median $84,446 per athlete in 2008 vs. $61,218 in 2005. While median spending on other students increased by only 20% over the same time period from $11,079 in 2005 to $13,349 in 2008.
